British Science Week – Barnes, the ExoMars Rover

Come along to Jodrell Bank this weekend to meeting Barnes, Aberystwyth University’s full scale model of the ExoMars Rover!

The ExoMars mission is a joint mission between the European Space Agency and Russia’s Roscosmos to search for signs of life, past and present, on Mars.

Free with General Admission.

British Science Week – Science Show

Join this fun and interactive family-friendly science show journeying through the history and achievements of scientists at Jodrell Bank.

From the Apollo Moon missions to exploding stars and black holes, there are lots of things to discover and join in with.

The show will last approximately 45 minutes and is aimed at aged 7+

Free with General Admission.

British Science Week – Telescope Walking Tour

The Telescope Walking Tours at Jodrell Bank take you on a stroll around the base of the impressive Lovell Telescope.

Find out how the Grade 1 listed telescope works, explore it’s history and discover some of it’s ground-breaking research.

Talks last approx 45 minutes and are aimed at adults and children aged 10+

WHAT'S ON IN BURY - Jodrell Bank - Get Set, Blast Off

Get Set, Blast Off!

Join in the fun at Jodrell Bank for a fun-filled rocket trip into space, exploring the Solar System.

There will be lots of inactive fun and games with sessions lasting approximately 20 minutes.

ScienceX

ScienceX is a free, interactive festival hosted by the University of Manchester.  There will be a whole host of activities open to everyone, including robots, race cars and virtual reality.  A chance for kids to get hands on and discover that there is a lot of fun involved in Science.

WHAT'S ON IN BURY - World Book Day 2019

World Book Day – Thursday 7th March 2019

World Book Day is a registered charity on a mission to give every child, and young person, a book of their own. It’s also a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and reading. In fact, it’s the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.

This is the 22nd year there’s been a World Book Day, and on 7th March 2019, children of all ages will come together to appreciate reading. The main aim of World Book Day in the UK and Ireland is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books, and reading, by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own.

World Book Day 2019 Bury Libraries

ReadingZone

ReadingZone are challenging young people aged 4 to 18 years to make their own picture book on and around World Book Day, with the launch of the ReadingZone WBD Picture Book Competition 2019.  The competition is now open and will run in homes, schools and libraries until Tuesday 30th April.

The competition includes four categories:

  • Young creators (aged 4-6)
  • Primary Award (aged 7-11)
  • Secondary Award (aged 11-18)
  • Achievement Award (for the school with the most enthusiastic approach)

The winners will be announced in June 2019. You can find out more about this HERE
