Review: Stick Man at The Lowry

Have you seen, or read, the tale of Stick Man?  Who hasn’t right?  That’s why this show is a must!

About The Show

Scamp Theatre have brought the magic of Julia Donaldson’s ‘Stick Man’ to life!

We see the much loved character, Stick Man, as he goes for a jog and his encounter with a dog, who wants to play fetch with him.  Following this is a series of unfortunate encounters for Stick Man, including a girl using him in a game of poohsticks, and a Swan making a nest with him!  Stick Man is then swept out to sea ending up far from home, his stick lady love and family of 3.  As the seasons pass, Stick Man meets a surprising friend who might just be able to help him get home.  Will he get back home to the family tree in time for Christmas?

Take a look at the show here:

Our Recommendations

The show is full of puppetry, music, quirky songs, and funky moves. It’s intention to draw in the audience works like a treat, with characters coming out into the audience, and the audience get involved in bat and ball!  You’ll even find the weather takes on a wintry scene inside the theatre!

The show is only about 60 minutes long so it’s perfect for youngsters that might struggle to sit still for long periods of time. There is nothing more wonderful than seeing your little one’s face light up, and shouting to the characters “he’s over there”!  It’s definitely a feel-good festive show.

Tickets

The show is running from Saturday 1st December until Sunday 6th January 2019 so don’t miss out!

Baby Mindful Classes

Baby Mindful classes are different to many other baby activity classes, in that classes have a slow and simple pace, giving you the chance to “be” with your baby” rather than “do”.

Each session is based around a well-known nursery rhyme and follows a seven-step programme, including: –

  • movement
  • play
  • gentle stretching
  • gentle baby touch
  • breathing exercises for parents
  • affirmations
  • relaxation

The unique classes allow a wonderful space for parent and baby to connect and enjoy being with each other – it’s never too early to be introduced to calmness and contentment. Spend quality time with your baby in a calming and supportive atmosphere, where you can benefit from carefully designed exercises to help you relax, unwind, and feel more confident and grounded. Strengthen the bond with your new baby and see how they are gently stimulated and calmed.

Caroline Bowman, Associate Puppet Designer, said “Nobody has ever seen puppets like these before. I think these are puppets beyond your wildest dreams.” Nick Barnes, Puppet Designer, added “It’s a real privilege to be able to create puppets for a show like this where there’s going to be a wonderful cast of people operating them and performing with them. Primary School Admissions: what to do if you don’t get your first choice

Are you one of the nervous parents anxiously awaiting National Offer Day on Monday 16th April?

After 16th April you will be able to view your child’s allocated school, by logging into your account here.  Emails will also be sent confirming school allocations after 9am.

First Choice School Offer

If you are happy with your child’s chosen school, you must respond to the offer, in line with the instructions on the offer letter. Local authorities will inform schools of the offers that have been accepted.

If You Are Not Offered Your First Choice

If your child has not been offered your first choice, you have the right to appeal.  Take a look at the appeals process below.

Appealing the decision

Your appeal is likely to be more successful if:

  • A mistake has been made in the allocation of places according to the admissions criteria and your child would have received that place, or;
  • That the decision to refuse admission was ‘unreasonable’ in the circumstances of the case. ‘Unreasonable’ is a very high threshold for an appeal to be successful. It is defined as ‘a decision which is so outrageous in its defiance of logic or of accepted moral standards that no sensible person who had applied his mind to the question could have arrived at it’.

Appeals Process

You can appeal a decision about a reception class to any school using the online appeals system here

Please bear in mind: –

  • You must complete an appeal form for each school you are applying for.
  • You should give the reasons for wanting a place at each school. A statement will be prepared showing why the Local Authority/ School Governors have not been able to offer a place.
  • Your form and the Local Authority/ Governors statement will form the basis of the consideration by the Appeals Panel. You will be invited to the meeting to discuss your case with the Panel. A Local Authority representative or representative of the Governors will also be invited. The Panel will make their decision based on the information available to them at the meeting.
  • If it is necessary for you to go to the Independent Appeals Panel, further information will be sent to you by the Democratic Services Section of the Council who arrange the appeals meetings. Once the panel has made their decision, there is no further right of appeal.

You can find further information on admissions in Bury here

Bee In The City Farewell Weekend

Bee In The City’s Celebratory Farewell Weekend

This weekend saw Bee in the City’s Celebratory Farewell Weekend at the HSBC UK National Cycling Centre. This special event gave Bee seekers the chance to see all of the 101 giant Bee in the City sculptures together for one last time.

The event also gave trail hunters the opportunity to complete their trail activity, if they hadn’t managed it during the Summer, with this bee-utiful display.

The bees were displayed both inside, and outside, of the Velodrome and it was lovely to walk around and take a leisurely look at them all.  It gave us the opportunity to take a really close look at all of the bees, their artists, and the inspiration behind each design.

The bees ranged from reflecting the Manchester skyline, the diversity of people in Manchester, the history of Manchester, plus many more.

Activities

There were also lots of other activities, including face painting, candle making, live music, street food, an art fair and street theatre acts including Egg People’s interactive performance Waggle Dance, a high impact, interactive, playful, walkabout act.  Their funny dance, and antics, were hilarious.

Daisy & Ollie Christmas Special

Do you have a Daisy & Ollie fan?

Are you a Gary Barlow and Jason Manford fan?

Look no further than the latest episode of Daisy & Ollie – their Christmas Special!

Gary Barlow joins the cast of Daily & Ollie

Gary Barlow has joined forces with the cast for this one off special called ‘What’s So Special About Christmas Anyway?’ where we see Daisy’s daddy struggling to get into the festive spirit due to the pressures of work – in this case writing a song for Gary Barlow to sing at the town’s Christmas concert.

The Take That front man has been animated by the team at CHF Entertainment and will star as himself in the magical episode singing a song written by Jason Manford and the team.

The ever-inquisitive friends ‘Daisy’ (voiced by Sarah Hadland) and ‘Ollie’ (voiced by Claire Morgan) are disheartened to discover that Daisy’s Daddy isn’t feeling the festive inspiration to write the song, which prompts them to try and restore his Christmas spirit by finding out what really is so special about Christmas.

Daisy & Ollie Cast

Created by Helen Brown and produced by CHF Entertainment, with Jason Manford as executive producer and writing many of the scripts, “Daisy & Ollie” premiered for the first time on Cartoonito in November 2017 and was an instant hit with parents and their pre-schoolers, quickly becoming the No1 show on launch.

Gary comments: “I was absolutely thrilled when Jason asked me to be part of the Daisy & Ollie Christmas special, especially as a cartoon version of myself. It was great fun and a heart-warming show. I can’t wait to watch it with my family during the Christmas period!”

Jason comments: “It has been an exciting few months working with Gary Barlow on the Daisy & Ollie Christmas episode, and it has been an incredible honour to write a song for him to sing in the show.  Bringing in a huge star like Gary brings that festive touch of sparkle a Christmas episode needs. I can’t wait for the viewers’ reactions when they see Gary in the show, the animators have done an incredible job creating his character – it looks just like him!”

The Daisy & Ollie Christmas Special episode, What’s so great about Christmas anyway?’ is available to watch on Cartoonito and to download from Amazon and iTunes from Sunday 2nd December.

Premiere Screening

We were lucky enough to be invited to go along to the Premiere of the screening yesterday and it is most definitely a must watch for all parents and little ones.

The episode is, as always, beautifully written by Helen Brown and promises to make your little one’s face light up.

Press Release:

JASON MANFORD HOSTS PREMIERE OF DAISY & OLLIE CHRISTMAS SPECIAL

Northern stars visited the Savoy Cinema in Jason’s hometown, Stockport, for a festive screening of hit preschool animation Daisy & Ollie’s Christmas special, which features a musical performance from Gary Barlow.

On Friday 30th November, comedian and Daisy & Ollie executive producer, Jason Manford, was joined by friends and cast members including Sarah Hadland, Clare Morgan and BBC Radio Manchester Breakfast Show presenter Chelsea Norris as he hosted the event at the Savoy Cinema, Stockport.

Along with their families, friends and fans came out for the premiere of ‘What’s so great about Christmas anyway?’, a festive Daisy & Ollie episode which also features Take That frontman Gary Barlow singing a Christmas song written by Jason Manford.

The episode, which launched on Cartoonito on Saturday 1st December and is now available for download on Amazon and iTunes, is brimming with music and fun, and follows ‘Daisy’s Daddy’ (voiced by Jason Manford), a musician and single father, as he is asked to write a Christmas single for the world famous pop star, Gary Barlow, who’ll be performing it at the town Christmas concert.

Over 150 people attended the festive family screening, which concluded with a Q&A with Jason Manford and his fellow voice cast, Sarah Hadland and Clare Morgan along with the show’s creator, Helen Brown from CHF Entertainment.

Guests and their families also met the Daisy & Ollie costume characters and were treated to a very special visit from Santa and his Elf, who took time out of their duties at the Christmas Woodland at Blakemere to meet the guests.

Jason Manford comments: “It has been an absolute pleasure to host the screening today in my hometown of Stockport. It was wonderful to see the reactions of so many young children and their families alike enjoying the new episode. It’s been an exciting few months working with Gary and an incredible honour to write a song for him to sing in the show! The animation team did a great job. The episode officially launches tomorrow and I hope the viewers enjoy watching it as much as I have making it!”

On appearing in the Daisy & Ollie Christmas special, Gary commented: “I was absolutely thrilled when Jason asked me to be part of the Daisy & Ollie Christmas special, especially as a cartoon version of myself. It was great fun and a heart-warming show. I can’t wait to watch it with my family during the Christmas period!”
