WHAT'S ON IN BURY - Paw Patrol Brick Trail

Paw Patrol Brick Trail

‘Brickburn’ is to host the world’s first PAW Patrol brick trail!

PAW Patrol fans will be able to meet their favourite characters this summer – as Blackburn hosts the world’s first PAW Patrol brick trail, built and presented by BRICKLIVE.

The stunning spectacle, featuring 21 of your favourite characters and buildings from the hit Nick Jr show, will be built by BRICKLIVE from brightly coloured toy bricks and placed around the town centre between 23 August and 1 September.

Characters Chase, Marshall, Skye and the gang will be hosted by venues around the town – which will be rebranded ‘Brickburn’ to celebrate the trail.  Blackburn will be the first place in the world to host the official PAW Patrol brick models, with the pups ranging in size from 75cm to 120cm high.

The trail, organised by Blackburn Business Improvement District (BID), will also feature a 2m tall Lookout Tower using over 65,000 bricks; and a selfie-zone of Marshall’s Fire Truck using a whopping 160,000 bricks.

Families will be able to explore the town and find all the models using the Brickburn trail map and children will also be able to take part in a number of free workshops and interactive building activities.

WHAT'S ON IN BURY - Elmer The Patchwork Elephant Show

Elmer The Patchwork Elephant Show

Based on the class children’s book series by David McKee that celebrates its 30th birthday this year, Elmer The Patchwork Elephant Show is a celebration of individuality, and the power of laughter!

As everyone knows, elephants are big, have trunks and are grey.  But Elmer is a patchwork of brilliant colours!  His fun-loving and cheerful personality keeps everyone in a playful mood, until one day Elmer gets tired of being different and tried to blend in with the herd.

Elmer The Patchwork Elephant Show features a menagerie of 21 lovable puppets and tells the tale of an elephant that stands out – both with his patchwork-coloured skin and his sense of humour – but ultimately realises that his friends have always valued his unique characteristics.

The show’s subtle message that it is always best to be yourself, and combined with the vibrant colour and cheeky humour of the main character, Elmer is a great show for children of all ages.

Shows Times & Tickets

Elmer The Patchwork Elephant Show is on at King George’s Hall on Monday 19th August (2pm) and Tuesday 20th August (11am).

WHAT'S ON IN MANCHESTER - We're Going On A Bear Hunt Review

Review: We’re Going On A Bear Hunt

Have you got your tickets to the show ‘We’re Going On A Bear Hunt’?

What a wonderful show!  The story is told in such a lovely way, with ingenious methods of recreating the scenes.

We join dad, 3 children and their dog, as they set off on their intrepid adventure in search of a bear.  From the very start the audience are involved, getting carried away with quirky, funny dances and songs.   The long wavy grass is recreated in an imaginative way, with the family realising “they can’t go over it, they can’t go under it, oh no… they’ll have to go through it!”

As the adventurous family reach the splishy splashy river, they realise they need to “go through it” and step through water.  Dad’s need for armbands has everyone laughing, and the interaction with the audience continues as they proceed to splash everyone, and spray them with water guns!  Every single member of the audience squealed with laughter as they were gently squirted and sprayed.

The thick, oozy, squelchy mud scene was very funny, with their comical antics, resulting in them covering each other in it!  They had the whole audience laughing, and the kids in particular loved it!

The swirling, whirling snowstorm was lovely as the clever lighting in the theatre looked like it was snowing everywhere… and all the while the sounds of the bear become closer, and louder.. including grumbles, snores and burps!

The adorable dog creates the mood for the whole show with his musical skills, making the visit to the cave at the end of the show, along with great lighting, feels a little scary (although not too much to scare little ones).

The bear appears and starts to chase the family, back through the swirling, whirling snow storm, the thick ozzy mud, the deep dark forest and the long wavy grass, all the way back to their front door.. which thrills, and excites, every single one of the kids!

Throughout the show, the interaction with the audience was fantastic!  Singing along with their songs, along with audience participation is wonderful!  What a heart-warming, feel good show!

WHAT'S ON IN MANCHESTER - In The Night Garden Live Palace Theatre1

Seen by over one million people, the critically acclaimed production has established itself as a must-see first theatre experience for young children. Oliver Seadon, Executive Producer said “When we made In the Night Garden Live we never imagined it would run for 10 years and that over a million visitors would come to see it. It’s incredibly exciting now to be making a brand-new show and taking it into theatres all over the country. This will be the first time that audiences get to see In the Night Garden Live in their local theatre.”

In the Night Garden Live is written by Helen Eastman (writer of Bing Live) and based on the Ragdoll television series created by Andrew Davenport. Directed by acclaimed Royal Ballet choreographer and director Will Tuckett, the show is produced by Minor Entertainment under licence from DHX Media. Director Will Tuckett said, “Children know these characters so well, much better than we ever might think. They see them as proper friends – when they appear on stage live they are seeing friends liberated from the television or tablet. They are there, waving at THEM. Taking your child to see them live on stage is an extraordinary experience – it’s a genuinely heartwarming and truly magical thing and makes me love my job as much as I do.”
